PowerFlex 3.X: Cannot Add Volumes to Existing Service

Summary: When a volume is removed from a PowerFlex Manager (PFxM) service and an attempt to add it back is made, the operation fails with "An error occurred during the processing of storage components". In this instance, this error is due to stale Virtual Machine File System (VMFS) data residing on the volume. Once confirmed that this data is unused, remove it and retry the operation. ...

If we go to /opt/Dell/ASM/deployments/<JOB_ID>/ and review <VCENTER_NAME>.out we see entries like the following.

/opt/puppetlabs/puppet/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/puppet/util/errors.rb:157:in `fail'

Cause

If the disk was previously used in PFxM, it was most likely improperly removed if the VMFS data remains.

Resolution

Remove the existing VMFS data from the disk in vCenter.
Retry the deployment or update service details.
Once all is showing green in PFxM, attempt to add the volumes again.
