OpenManage Enterprise Integration: How to Install and Register for VMware vCenter plug-in

OMEVV Plugin Basics:

Purpose of OMEVV Plugin:

  • Simplifies integration with vCenter - replaces legacy OMIVV
  • Provide a similar functionality of deployment and cluster aware updating
  • Provides integration with Update Manager plugin for custom repositories

Installing OMEVV Plugin(Online):

  • Inside OM Enterprise, go to Application Settings > Console and Plugins
  • Click the refresh button to dynamically pull updates from downloads.dell.com/openmanage_enterprise
  • In the plugins option, there is an option to install an OMEVV plugin
  • Install the plugin

Installing Services Plugin(Offline):

  • Go to downloads.dell.com/openmanage_enterprise/plugins/omevv/
  • Pull the plugin_catalog.json, the plugin_catalog.json.asc, and the archives folder and copy them to a Network File System (NFS) or http share
  • Inside OM Enterprise, navigate to Application Settings > Console and Plugins
  • Ensure that update settings are pointing to NFS/HTTP share
  • In the plugins section, there is an option to install the OMEVV Plugin
  • Install the plugin

OMEVV Plugin Registration:

Registration Basics:

NOTE: If OpenManage Enterprise (OME) is using a custom CA cert, that cert should be imported before integrating with vCenter.
  • The plugin does not do anything until registration is complete
  • The plugin can use port 80 or 443 to register with vCenter
  • The hostname of vCenter must be resolvable in DNS

Registration Workflow:

  • Once the plugin is installed, go to Plugins > OMEVV Plugin > Administration, click Register.
  • Add vCenter IP or FQDN
    NOTE: DNS must have a valid A record for vCenter and the OM Enterprise appliance.
  • Add a username and password with proper privileges to register with vCenter
    NOTE: Do not use a user with special characters in the username.
  • Now finish the wizard and click Register
