Symptoms

The restore for spfile fails with the following error:
RMAN> connect ********
2>
3> CREATE SPFILE
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00558: error encountered while parsing input commands
RMAN-01009: syntax error: found "spfile": expecting one of: "catalog, global, restore, script, virtual"
RMAN-01007: at line 3 column 8 file: /tmp/rman_script_xxxx_8368

Cause

The issue is with the Oracle version.
For Oracle 11g, the RMAN clause is required to add sql in the clause.
For Oracle 12c and 19c, it is not required. For example:

RMAN> connect ********
2>
3> sql "CREATE SPFILE"

Resolution

This is permanently fixed in PowerProtect Data Manager 19.15.
The current workaround is to use CLI to restore SPFILE first and then do the rest Alternative restore in UI without SPFILE.
