OptiPlex 7010 and OptiPlex All in One Plus 7410 SSD Temperature Increases and Speed Decreases When Copying Large Files

Summary: Information about the Solid State Drive (SSD) performance decreasing as the drive temperature rises when copying large files.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

You might see that the SSD temperature reaches 80°c and that writing speed drops by almost 50% after 15 or 20 minutes while copying large files.

Cause

Copying voluminous data for more than 10 minutes with a high load is comparable to a stress test, during which the SSD consumes more energy, leading to a rise in SSD temperature and it triggers thermal throttling.

Resolution

Working as Designed

This behavior is considered normal if the SSD does not exceed its maximum temperature limits.
