Instructions
Affected Platforms:
- Dell Thin Clients
Affected Operating Systems:
- Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021
By default, UWF prevents most configuration changes from being persisted across reboots. This includes monitor settings such as resolution, rotation, and position. For deployments that allow for individual and varied monitor setups this can be detrimental.
Steps to preserve monitor settings:
- Log in as administrator
- Create a batch file on the Administrator's desktop
- Insert the following four commands into the batch file
uwfmgr.exe registry add-exclusion HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration uwfmgr.exe registry add-exclusion HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\UnitedVideo\CONTROL\VIDEO uwfmgr.exe registry add-exclusion HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Connectivity uwfmgr.exe registry add-exclusion HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\ScaleFactors
- Save the batch file
- Right-click the batch file and choose Run As Administrator
- Once the device is done, reboot the device for the changes to take effect.
Note:
- These changes can be applied using Wyse Management Suite (WMS), Administrators can use Application Policy to push the batch file to targeted devices.
- The Scaling Factor (size of text, apps, and other items) setting is not preserved as it is a per user setting and Microsoft does not provide a method to exclude users' registry information from UWF from filtering it.
- During testing, it was observed that if the Scaling Factor was changed for a monitor, then all settings might be reset on the next boot. If this happens, set up the monitors as desired without changing the Scaling Factor.
- Any change to the Scaling Factor requires the UWF to be disabled while the change is made.
