Symptoms

The service LED on an XPS laptop may flash 1-amber 8-white after leaving the computer idle for around 10 minutes. The computer keeps working as usual.

Affected Platforms:

  • XPS 13 9340
  • XPS 14 9440
  • XPS 16 9640

Cause

This is due to the issue with the BIOS code.

Resolution

Updating to BIOS version 1.2.1 or later on XPS 13 9340 and XPS 14 9440, and BIOS version 1.13.0 or later for XPS 16 9640 resolves the issue. To download and install the BIOS, refer to the BIOS Update Guide.
