LAN Connection Not Detected in Ubuntu 22.04 After Rebooting While Attached to Dell Dock

Symptoms

Affected Products:

  • Dell Dock WD19
  • Dell Dock WD19S

Affected Platforms:

  • Latitude
  • Mobile Precision
  • XPS

This problem happens with Dell OEM Ubuntu 22.04 (Kernel 6.1.0-1006-oem) and Ubuntu 22.04.1 (Kernel 5.15.0-43-generic). Other Linux operating systems, if based on Ubuntu are likely to be impacted as well.

  • Unable to open Websites in Browser
  • Nmcli shows WD19 LAN p2p-dev-wlp0s20f3 in disconnected state
  • Ping fails: Destination Host Unreachable

Cause

The Ubuntu Linux requires a Realtek USB LAN Update which is not included by default.

Resolution

Advise the customer to update BIOS to v1.15.0 or later, and run the following commands to update:

  1. Run sudo apt update to update sources.
  2. Run sudo apt install linux-firmware starts update 20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.10 (Dell OEM Ubuntu) or 20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.3 (Stock Ubuntu) to install 20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.26 which contains the required fix.
  3. Reboot the computer and verify that the problem has been resolved.
