Symptoms
Successfully added the new node to the VxRail cluster and placed the host to the maintenance mode. The following error appeared while adding the same new node to the VCF Domain, using Software Defined Datacenter (SDDC) Manager.
Cluster Expansion validation failed since the cluster is using NSX-T overlay static IP pool
Domain manager logs may also report these messages:
Validate NSX-T Transport Node Cluster does not use Static IP. Expanding L3 based Cluster is not supported since the cluster is using NSX-T overlay static IP pool. Cluster Expansion validation failed since the cluster is using NSX-T overlay static IP pool.
Cause
This issue may occur when one or more VxRail nodes of the cluster have IPv4 settings assigned and or enabled for the network below:
vmk0 port group (VxRail Management network)Normally when a VxRail cluster is deployed, the above vmk0 port group should only have an IPv6 setting enabled. Sometimes an IPv4 setting is assigned and or enabled on one or more nodes.
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve this issue:
- Ensure that there are enough IPs available in the NSX-T TEP static pool. If not, update the pool range.
- Check the VMkernel port group setting for vmk0 port group (VxRail Management network) on all the nodes of the vSphere cluster. Ensure IPv4 settings are disabled. If found assigned and or enabled, choose the "No IPv4 settings" option and click "OK".
- Re-run the SDDC Manager Node add validation.
