Symptoms
- When the customer performs Storage vMotion from VMFS to vVol datastore and sets a snapshot protection policy(storage policy) simultaneously, Storage vMotion succeeds but the storage policy assignment may fail.
- This issue is more likely to occurs when there is a large number of VM migrations from VMFS to vVol.
A specified parameter was not correct: spec.deviceChange.device Storage policy change failure: One of the parameters supplied is invalid.
Cause
This issue is being investigated by VMware, as issue DCPN 00127169.
Resolution
Workaround:
- Retry setting the VM snapshot policy again after Storage vMotion completes.
- If the policy fails to be updated, Contact Dell Technical Support to confirm this issue has occurred. Reference this KB Article in the Service Request for expedited handling.
