The Avamar upgrade from 19.10.0-135 to 19.10.0-166 fails when the MCS hotfix is installed

Symptoms

The upgrade package is rejected with the message that the package version is incorrect.

Cause

New Management Server Console (MCS) hotfixes (from 338839) are based on 19.10.0-166 SP1, as no patch branch exists for 19.10.0-135. These hotfixes are compatible and can be applied as callable to both the 19.10.0-135 and 19.10.0-166 Avamar servers. However, when applied to a 19.10.0-135 server, the MCS version is upgraded to 19.10.0-166, while the GSAN version remains as 19.10.0-135.

Applying a 19.10.0-166 SP1 hotfix to 19.10.0-135 servers causes upgrade rejection due to matching MCS and target Avamar Installer (AVI) versions.

Resolution

To upgrade the Avamar Server from 19.10.0-135 to 19.10.0-166 SP1, avoid installing any hotfixes generated from the 19.10.0-166 SP1 branch beforehand. Instead, perform a direct upgrade to 19.10.0-166 SP1 and apply the latest callable MCS cumulative hotfix to receive all current fixes.
