For the Fingerprint Reader to function you must install the drivers and software on your computer. The software used for the fingerprint reader is Dell Data Protection | Security Tools and can be found on the Drivers & Downloads site page, from there, add your service tag or allow the site to identify your computer to ensure the correct driver and software are identified for your computer and go to the Drivers section from the menu shown.

Dell Data Protection | Security Tools

The Dell Data Protection | Security Tools replaces the Dell Data Protection Access, which is no longer available. Dell Data Protection | Security Tools comes preinstalled on all Dell Latitude, OptiPlex, and Precision computers and on selected XPS laptops. It can also be downloaded through the Drivers & Downloads site page.

If installing on a Dell computer that includes Dell ControlVault, ensure the Dell ControlVault firmware is at the latest version (when available), which requires Dell Data Protection | Security Tools to be installed.

Control Vault Firmware Update

Control Vault drivers and firmware are created per-platform. To find the latest version of the Dell Control Vault drivers and firmware, navigate the Drivers & Downloads site, selecting the affected platform.

Once downloaded, extract the Dell ControlVault Firmware update package. As the extraction is completed, the setup file automatically starts.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the install and upgrade of the Dell Control Vault drivers and firmware.
