Symptômes

This article provides information about changes on factory installed VMWare ESXi operating systems with the launch of the 14th generation (14G) of DellEMC PowerEdge servers. 14G servers include the following models R740XD, R740, R640, R540, R440, T640, T440, M640 and FC640. These servers are called VSAN Ready Node as they are designed and optimized to run with VMWare Operating System.



What is the VMware Dell Server defaut password?
 

There are 2 changes regarding the factory installation of VMWare ESXi operating systems. Depending of the configuration purchased the password will be

 
Shipped Configuration Default Password
VSAN VMware ESXi 6.5 Embedded image Passw0rd!
14G + normal VMware ESXi 6.7 image Tag!
14G + normal VMware ESXi 6.5 image Tag!
Factory installation for former 13G No Settings

 

 
  1. The root password is the Service Tag of the machine followed by the character "!". This can be changed during deployment.
    Previously there was no password set and this change only affects 14G systems. Example : "AAAXXX1!"

    The following message can appear and explains that the root password is the service tag followed by the exclamation mark:

  2. OS Installations with the BOSS-S1 device will not have the VMFS datastore enabled by default.
    Dell EMC BOSS-S1 boot devices meets all the TBW requirements for both boot devices and Logging devices. (Documentation regarding boot devices can be found in the following VMware KB article :  https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2145210 )
