Removing the system board

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or the M.2 2280 solid-state drive, whichever is applicable.
  5. Remove the wireless card.
  6. Remove the display assembly.
  7. Remove the fan.
  8. Remove the heat sink.

Steps

  1. Peel the tape that secures the I/O-board connector latch to the system board.
  2. Lift the latch and disconnect the I/O-board cable from the system board.
  3. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
  4. Disconnect the speaker cable from the speaker board.
  5. Lift the latch and disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
  6. Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.
  7. Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard-backlight cable from the system board.
  8. Remove the two screws (M2x4) that secure the USB Type-C bracket to the system board.
  9. Lift the USB Type-C bracket off the system board.
  10. Remove the two screws (M2x2) that secure the system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
  11. Lift the system board off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
