OpenManage Enterprise Power Manager Version 3.1 User’s Guide

Set preferences

The settings on the page enable you to collect data for the devices and groups added to Power Manager. Set the Sampling Intervals according to your data center recommendations and monitor your devices.

About this task

If you are logging in as a Device Manager, you can only view the preferences that an Administrator has configured in Power Manager.

To set the units and sampling intervals, perform the following steps:

Steps

  1. Launch OpenManage Enterprise, and then click Plugins > Power Management > Settings.
    The Settings tab is displayed.
  2. Click Edit.
The Edit Power Manager Preferences window is displayed.
  3. To reset to the default values, click Reset to Default > Yes.
  4. Select the values for the listed options, and then click Apply.
The following table provides more information about the attributes that are displayed in Power Manager.
Table 1. Power Manager SettingsBrief description of the intervals that you can set in Power Manager.
    Field Description
Data gathering interval Select the frequency to collect data from devices or groups.

Use your data center requirements such as network traffic, and criticality of data to set the data gathering interval.

NOTE:If the data gathering interval is 5 minutes, and when the number of devices:
    • Excluding VMs that are added to Power Manager exceeds 1000, the interval automatically changes to 15 minutes. You cannot return this 15 minutes setting to 5 minutes.
    • Including VMs exceeds 1000, the interval should be manually changed to 15 minutes.
NOTE:If the number of devices in PMP is less than 1000 but the device count exceeds 1000 in other plug-ins—discovered before or after PMP device discovery—and the data gathering interval is 5 minutes, the metric collection in PMP might not happen for the second and third 5 minute interval. Because the total number of devices exceeds 1000, metric collection might take more than 5 minutes. The metric graphs might have gaps at regular intervals and the actual aggregations are not displayed.
Duration of top energy consumers Select the duration to view the list of devices or groups that consume maximum energy on the OpenManage Enterprise dashboard for the selected duration.

Only the top five energy consumers are displayed.

Report Duration View data for the selected duration.
Aggregation Period Select the frequency of the level of detailed information that has to be displayed in reports.
NOTE:If you select a Report Duration other than 1 Day, the Aggregation Period is automatically set to 1 Day.
Delete Power Manager data Based on your data requirements, select one of the options:
    • Yes—To delete configured alert thresholds and metric data that is collected from devices and groups when they are removed from Power Manager.
    • No—To retain the configured alert thresholds and metric data that is collected from devices and groups when they are removed from Power Manager.
NOTE:When you set Delete Power Manager data to No and delete devices or groups, all Power Manager-related data for that device or group is removed from view but not deleted. When you add the device or group again, data for that device or group is available again.
Automatic Physical Hierarchy: Space Capacity Select the rack height for automatic creation of physical groups. The location information of devices is automatically populated.
Automatic Physical Hierarchy: Power Capacity Power capacity of racks.
Power Cap Threshold: Enable Enable the setting to generate alerts for devices and groups when power consumption approaches the power cap limit that is defined in the policy.
Power Cap Threshold: Threshold A value less than or equal to power cap to generate alerts for devices and groups when power exceeds threshold.

The threshold violation is measured against the average power consumption.

Idle Server Detection: Threshold Set the server utilization threshold.
Idle Server Detection:Scan Interval A time interval to collect server utilization information.
Idle Server Detection: Utilization Percentile The threshold value is compared with utilization percentile to determine the underutilized servers. Ensure that you do not:
    • Frequently modify the idle server detection parameters. A job is run every 24 hours to update any change in the settings.
    • Use iDRAC interface to modify the configurations.
Force shutdown: Enforce Enable this setting to force shutdown devices when graceful shutdown fails while enabling EPR.
Staggered EPR Removal: Enforce Enable staggering of device power-on capability when EPR is disabled to prevent a surge in power.
Staggered EPR Removal: Time Delay Specify a time that would introduce a delay between devices to power on after EPR is disabled.
Flat Rate /kWh Specify a fixed cost of energy consumed per kWh.
Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) A value that is a multiplier of the data center energy which estimates the cooling energy.
Currency Select a currency that is used to calculate the energy consumed cost.
Emission Conversion Factor Set a factor to determine the carbon emissions for a unit of energy consumed.
NOTE:To delete the data after a specific duration, configure the Data purge interval option present in the following location: OpenManage Enterprise > Application Settings > Console Preferences > Metrics Collection Settings.
