Replacing the system battery

Prerequisites

NOTE There is a danger of a new battery exploding if it is incorrectly installed. Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type that is recommended by the manufacturer. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions. See the Safety instructions. that came with your system for more information.
  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.

Steps

  1. Push the battery holder clip away from the battery.
    CAUTION To avoid damage to the battery holder clip, ensure that you do not bend the battery holder clip while installing or removing a battery.
  2. Pull the battery out of the battery holder.
    NOTE Ensure that the + side of the battery is facing the battery holder clip.

  3. To install a system battery, push the battery holder clip away.
  4. Insert the battery in the battery holder until the battery holder clip snaps into place.
    CAUTION To avoid damage to the battery holder clip, ensure that you do not bend the battery holder clip while installing or removing a battery.

Next steps

  1. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
  2. Confirm that the battery is operating properly, by performing the following steps:
    1. Enter the System Setup, while booting, by pressing F2.
    2. Enter the correct time and date in the System Setup Time and Date fields.
    3. Exit the System Setup.
    4. To test the newly installed battery, remove the system from the enclosure for at least an hour.
    5. Reinstall the system into the enclosure after an hour.
    6. Enter the System Setup and if the time and date are still incorrect, see Getting help section.
