In this video, I will demonstrate attaching a VMWARE ESXi 6.5 host to a storage center array with SAS IO cards. It is recommended to use the Dell customize ISO for vmware. Click on the summary tab then review the image profile. The Dell customize 6.5 ISO will automatically load the correct SAS driver.
If you're not using the Dell customize ESXi 6.5 ISO or you're using an older version of ESXi, the correct driver will not automatically load, refer to dell.com/support/article/how11081 for specific instructions to get these versions of ESXi to load the SAS driver that will work with storage center. If using the Dell customized ESXi 6.5 iso, click on the configure tab document the SAS H BS worldwide name located in the identifier column.
This will be needed when creating the server object. If using any other image, the SASS worldwide name will not show up and you will have to connect one ESXi server at a time to determine the worldwide name from the Dell storage manager. Open Dell storage manager and click on the storage tab, right.
Click on servers typically Dell recommends using the create server from vmware vsphere or vcenter wizard for adding host. However, the Dell storage manager 2016 released doesn't recognize these SASS worldwide names and you have to use the manual method. Click create server, enter the name of the server, select the OS from the drop down, then select the SASS worldwide name for the server.
This is the same worldwide name we documented a few minutes ago in the Vsphere web client as previously mentioned, if not using the Dell customized ESXi 6.5 iso have only one server connected at a time. So you can determine which worldwide name to use. Click OK. Right. Click the newly created server object and select create volume, update the volume name and click next, update the capacity and click next, make any modifications necessary for the storage options and click next, adjust the snapshot profiles for the volume and click next, click next, then finish to view mappings. Click on mapping.
If you click on servers, then the server, you can see the connections as well to use the volume, open the Vsphere web client rescan the storage adapter, click on storage devices, refresh the screen. You should see a compelling disk, click on data stores, click on the plus icon, choose VMS X then next provide a name and select the compellent disk and click next, select the version and click next, make any adjustments and click next, click, finish.
