Prerequisites
Use Dell Storage Manager to send SupportAssist information to technical support.
Use Dell Storage Manager to edit the Storage Center settings and set the operation mode of the Storage Center to Maintenance mode.
Remove the Battery Backup Unit:
Shut down the storage controller using Dell Storage Manager .
Make sure that all cables plugged into the storage controller are labeled.
Disconnect the cables from the storage controller that was shut down.
Remove the storage controller from the chassis
CAUTION: To prevent a thermal shutdown of the storage system, the service baffle must be installed within three minutes of removing the storage controller.
Install the service baffle into the empty slot in the chassis.
Verify that the battery LED on the storage controller is off. It might take a few seconds for the LED to turn off.
Remove the cover from the storage controller.
Lift up the handle from the battery backup unit. The battery slides away from the cage connector.

Install the Battery Backup Unit:
Place the battery backup unit over the battery cage in the storage controller.
Lower the handle until it is flush with the battery. The battery slides into the cage connector.
Remove the service baffle from the chassis.
CAUTION: To prevent a thermal shutdown of the storage system, the storage controller must be installed within three minutes of removing the service baffle.
Install the storage controller into the chassis.
Reconnect the cables to the storage controller.
Clear the storage controller swap status from the Hardware tab in Dell Storage Manager . For instructions, see the Storage Manager Administrator’s Guide .
Use Dell Storage Manager to edit the Storage Center settings and set the operation mode of the Storage Center to Production mode.
