Task Scheduler Cannot Update AWCC to Version 6.6.14.0

Symptoms

AWCC scheduled update is not working. A scheduling failure running a task to update the AWCC application may be experienced. The update install of the latest version of AWCC fails on an Alienware or G-Series laptop or desktop. It does not automatically update the application to the latest version available.

Affected Platforms:

  • Alienware Command Center version 6.5.9.0

Cause

The signing certificate for AWCC is different for version 6.6.14.0. Dell Technologies Inc. is the new legal name. Older versions of AWCC are using Dell Inc. instead.

The signature checker module in AWCC version 5.6.9.0 and older cannot verify the new legal name for version 6.6.14.0 of AWCC. The installer stops if it cannot establish the validity of the signature.

Resolution

Note: Administrator rights on the device are required to make any operating system changes or update any software.

Dell Technologies recommends using one of the other AWCC installation paths that are explained in the applications manual to update the application. The signature verification issue is working in the latest version (6.6.14.0) of AWCC. Updating to the latest version automatically resolves this problem with the task scheduler.

The four alternative update paths for AWCC are:

  1. Driver Flow: For connecting a device or display

  2. Update from the Applications settings page.

  3. Update using the Automatic update or SupportAssist Applications.

  4. Manually update the application from the Dell support site:

    • Update the application to Alienware Command Center 6.x - Full Installer for Alienware and Dell G Series platforms, version 6.6.14.0, A00 or later. Follow the instructions in the following link to download and install the Alienware-Command-Center-Application-Full-Installer_R2MTY_WIN64_6.6.14.0_A00.exe filename:
