PowerStore: System Health Checks detects if firmware upgrade is required
Summary: System Health Checks detect if a firmware (FW) upgrade is required.
Instructions
System Health may display the message "Components Firmware needs to be upgraded (KB#000201500)" in one of the following scenarios:
-
Running a System Check using PowerStore Manager (UI) with the Run System Check option:

-
Running the System Health Service Script (svc_health_check) using an SSH connection:
NOTE: Output truncated for illustrative purposes.[SVC:service@50V1BW2-B user]$ svc_health_check run -rhc component_stale_fw_check Name Location Status Description Component Firmware Check node_a Failed Components Firmware needs to be upgraded (KB#000201500) Component Firmware Check node_b Failed Components Firmware needs to be upgraded (KB#000201500)
The above message indicates that incompatible firmware (FW) is detected, and a firmware upgrade is required.
If System Health detects this condition, a Non-Disruptive Upgrade (NDU) completes but incorrect FW is installed. Incorrect FW may have various consequences.
NDU and maintenance operations should not be performed until this issue is resolved.
A manual node FW upgrade process is required. Contact Technical Support for assistance. Reference KB # 201500 for expedited attention and resolution.
Known Issue:
The Component Firmware Check may raise a false positive if there are duplicate FW entries.
If System Check for Component Firmware Check fails, then:
- Ensure that the latest health check package is installed. (Earlier health check packages do not check for duplicate FW entries.). For details on how to perform this, see the Additional Info section of KB 198084 PowerStore: How to use the System Check feature
- If a new health check package is required, install the new health check package and then retry the system health check. Verify if duplicate FW entries are detected.
- If the Component Firmware Check continues to fail after determining that there are no duplicate FW entries, contact Technical Support for assistance.
Additional Information
For more information about System Health Checks, see KB 198084 PowerStore: How to use the System Check feature or KB 192601 PowerStore: How to Check the Health of the Cluster Before Software Upgrade Using Pre-Upgrade Health Check and System Check.
Known issue: KB 218742 PowerStore: Health check for a component firmware check may fail if the power supply has been replaced in the past.
