For VPP device-based applications, Workspace ONE 9.1 allows automatic updates or manual push updates to device-based VPP applications at the application level.

  • Enable Automatic Update or Push an Update.
    • You could enable auto update. Disabling automatic updates and pushing them manually allows you to control what application versions are on devices.
      1. Go to Apps & Books > Applications > List View > Purchased.
      2. Select one or multiple applications using the check box in the left of the UI.
      3. Select Enable Auto Updates.
    • If you disable automatic updates, you can select Update App to push an update to devices if there is an update available.
      • Use Filters to Find Applications and Perform Tasks in Bulk.
      • Use the Auto Update filter or the Update Status filter to find and act on applications.
Note: Custom B2B applications and nondevice-based VPP applications are tagged as Not Applicable. These types of VPP applications are not supported for this feature.

The Workspace ONE Console and App Catalog uses the latest version of the app.
      • For public applications, there are three ways to update them on devices:
        • Click into the assigned number to open the managed devices page and issue a command to all devices with the app installed. To issue the command to all devices, change the view filter to "assigned." This lists all devices. Select Install On Filtered to issue a command to all these devices.
        • If the App Catalog is available to users, they can update the app at any time by choosing to redownload from the App Catalog. The App catalog always keeps the latest version.
        • Users can turn on the Auto-update for apps in Settings > ITunes & App Store. (Ensure that no app restrictions are enabled, such as, do not hide app store.)
      • For VPP applications, there are three ways to update them:
        • From the Manage devices page, you can issue a command to all devices. To do so to all devices, change the view filter to "all." This lists all devices. Select Install on Filtered to issue a command to all these devices.
          • For console 9.1+, click the radio button on the left side of the app. The Managed Devices button is on top.
          • For earlier console versions, hover over the magnifier button on the right side of the app to see Managed Devices. Click into the magnifier to be directed to the Manage Devices page.
        • Remove the assignment from the app in the Workspace ONE Console and save. Then, readd the proper assignment and save again. (Be aware, the app is first removed and then added again. This is not recommended if the app is still in use.)
        • If the App Catalog is available to users, they can update the app at any time by choosing to redownload from the App Catalog. The App catalog always keeps the latest version.
