Upgrading Unisphere for PowerMax 9.1 to 9.2
Error installing VC Redistributable

Unisphere installation logs reports:


Installation: Unsuccessful.

Error installing VC Redistributable

Custom Action:            com.emc.ia.spa.actions.InstallVCRedistAction
                          Status: FATAL ERROR
                          Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR -     class com.emc.ia.spa.actions.InstallVCRedistAction FatalInstallException: null
                          
                          INSTALL_SUCCESS=FATAL_ERROR

Cause:


The EMC software registry file does not contain Unisphere for PowerMax.

As this information is taken from the registry, the windows OS registry is not recognizing Unisphere for PowerMax as being installed.

Looking at the system event log it seems the OS may have FS corruption issues for N: and multiple services are not starting or timing out:

05/19/2021 02:35:49 PM  Error         P3TWDVIS02STD.gr 55      Ntfs                             A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume N:.    The exact nature of the corruption is unknown.  The file system structures need to be scanned online. 
05/19/2021 02:35:49 PM  Information   P3TWDVIS02STD.gr 7036    Service Control Manager          The EMC Symmetrix Management Application Server service entered the stopped state.

Resolution:

  • Uninstall Unisphere
  • Install VC++ 2015
  • Reinstall Unisphere
