Symptoms
Samsung PM883a SSD with HG57 or earlier firmware versions may report ERRORMOD and turn to 0GB under rare situations. When the issue occurs, the failed drive may become inaccessible, and the data are lost.
This issue was initially reported from Dell/Nutanix solutions with Samsung PM883a drives installed.
Cause
The issue has been identified as firmware issue from HG57 and earlier versions, which had been addressed in HG58 and later versions.
Resolution
It is highly recommended to apply the firmware version HG58 or newer at the earliest maintenance window.
For Dell/Nutanix solutions, the HG58 firmware version was provided by RIM release 2.5. Dell engineering recommends running Nutanix LCM with the latest RIM releases to update the Samsung PM883a drive firmware to prevent this issue.
If the driver has already failed, proceed with hardware troubleshooting and replacement, or escalate to the Dell support team for assistance if needed.
