Symptoms
The sound cannot switch back to the monitor after turning the monitor off and then back on. This happens when the monitor is connected using a DisplayPort cable. The DisplayPort cable may be DisplayPort or DisplayPort over USB Type-C.
Affected Platforms:
- Alienware Aurora R15
- Alienware Aurora R16
- Precision 3660 Tower
Cause
The monitor can only drive the one-way switch from DisplayPort audio to onboard audio. When the DisplayPort connection is restored, the operating system does not change the sound back to DisplayPort. When the connection is interrupted and the computer default audio profile is set as onboard, it does not go back when the DisplayPort connection is reestablished.
Resolution
This is working as designed. Close the audio or video and then open it again.
