Symptoms

Creation of SAP HANA client using the NetWorker Management Console (NMC) configuration wizard fails with:

The program '/usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostctrl' terminated with the error code 256

Cause

The SAP host agent is not running.

Resolution

  1. Start the SAP host agent process.
/usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostexec -restart
  1. Verify that the agent is running.
/usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostexec -status
  1. Retry the client configuration from the NMC.
