You can remove a VDC from a replication group (RG) in a multi VDC federation without affecting the VDC or other RGs associated with the VDC. Removing VDC from RG no longer initiates PSO. Removing a VDC from RG initiates recovery.
Prerequisites
This operation requires the System Administrator role in ECS.
Restrictions to Remove VDC
You cannot log in to a VDC and remove the same VDC.
If any VDC in the replication group is off, you cannot remove a VDC .
If it is the only VDC in a replication group, you cannot remove a VDC.
If any VDC in the replication group has Bootstrap or Failover process in progress, you cannot remove a VDC.
You cannot remove more than one VDC at a time.
If the system is not fully upgraded, you cannot remove a VDC.
You cannot delete a VDC when it is still associated with any replication groups.
It is a prerequisite to stop any workload to the system and wait until data replication is complete between the VDCs.
NOTE The time taken to complete data replication depends on the workload and network condition.
Steps
Log in to the ECS Portal.
In the ECS Portal, select
Manage >
Virtual Data Center, check to ensure the VDC you want to remove is online and working correctly.
Select
Manage >
Replication Group and click
Edit for the corresponding replication group.
The
Edit Replication Group window opens.
Click
Delete... for the VDC you want to delete.
Confirm Remove VDC window opens. Read all the important notes before you click the check box to confirm removal of VDC. Click
ok.
Click
Save in the Replication Group Management Window.
Select
Monitoring >
Geo Replication >
Failover Processing. The
Failover Progress column must show 100% done on all remaining VDCs in the replication group.
Select
Monitoring >
Geo Replication >
Bootstrap Processing. The
Bootstrap Progress (%) column must show 100% done on all remaining VDCs in the replication group.
The time that is taken for both the Failover process and the Bootstrap Process to complete depends on the amount of data on the failed VDC.
