Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9 User's Guide

Performing graceful shutdown

A graceful shutdown is when a server is turned off by software function and the operating system (OS) is allowed to perform its tasks of safely shutting down the processes. During this, it also powers down the PCIe slots and because of this, the adapters in PCIe slots do not respond to NC-SI control commands.

Since, the commands are not responded to, NIC-CEM module treats the adapters as non-responsive and it logs HWC8607 Lifecycle Controller logs (LCLOGs) to indicate that communication with the adapters is lost.

To perform graceful shutdown, in iDRAC Web interface, go to one of the following locations:
  • At Dashboard select Graceful Shutdown and click Apply.
NOTE: Once the request is sent to the host, it is up to the host to honor that request and execute it. Success of Graceful shutdown depends on the host state.

For more information, see the iDRAC Online Help.
