System Management Service (SMS) is a daemon that listens for incoming commands from clients such as the System Manager UI or DD command line. If SMS is not running, the system becomes unmanageable and unresponsive over the UI or command line; although backup/restore functionality should not be affected. SMS has eight command slots in its service queue and can be working on eight commands in parallel. If all jobs in the service queue get stuck for some reason, SMS waits for 2 hours before initiating a restart.
