Symptoms
- QR restore from a remote PPDM system hangs until manually canceled.
- Error message in
vmdm.log:-
DdRestClientException: "**** Value of \"password\" is empty or invalid."
-
- Data Domain credentials appear correct in both local and remote PPDM systems.
- Manual login to Data Domain confirms password validity.
- Re-entering the password in PPDM has no effect.
Cause
The issue is caused by a problem with how credentials are stored or referenced in PPDM. Even though the password appears valid in the UI, the backend fails to authenticate with Data Domain, resulting in restore failure.
Resolution
To resolve the issue:
- Change the password for each affected Data Domain system.
- Update the credentials in PPDM using the UI for both local and remote systems.
- Allow the next QR sync to run — this will refresh the credential record and restore functionality.
Note: If the
sysadmin account is used, create a new admin account in Data Domain. Then update PPDM to use the new credentials across both local and remote systems.
