PowerPath: setupapi.dev.log file shows "Error 5: Access is denied" after PowerPath installation

Instructions

  1. After running PowerPath installation successfully and prior to restarting the server, reviewing the setupapi.dev.log file shows MPIO.SYS MoveFile: Failed! Error 5: Access is denied.

  2. Reboot

  3. Uninstall PowerPath

  4. Reboot

  5. Remove MPIO feature

  6. Reboot

  7. Run PowerPath 5.7 SP4 installation but setup cannot continue as device driver installation is in progress warning message.

    Note: The system at this moment does not have any PowerPath related drivers or MPIO.SYS driver present under \windows\system32\drivers\ folder.
  8. After approximately 15 minutes later, the system blue screen with STOP code: 0x0000009E
    The system can restart normally but doing the device driver installation again and blue screen cycle.

  9. The fix used to remedy this scenario is to stop the Trusted Installer Service and then run PowerPath installation.
