For the best viewing experience, assemble the monitor stand, connect and organize the cables, and set up the monitor ergonomically.

Attaching the stand

CAUTION: Do not remove the monitor from the packaging box before attaching the stand.

Ergonomics

Where you put your monitor is almost as important as what model you buy.

  • The monitor should be directly in front of you, at an arm’s length away (between 20-40 inches from your eyes).
  • The top edge of the screen should be set at eye level when you are sitting comfortably. Adjust your chair height or the height of the monitor to achieve this.

Connecting your monitor to the computer

To connect your Dell C2423H monitor to your computer:

NOTE:
  • Dell monitors are designed to work optimally with Dell supplied inbox cables. Dell does not guarantee the video quality and performance when using non-Dell cables.
  • Route the cables through the cable-management slot before connecting them.
  • Do not connect all cables to the computer at the same time.
  • The graphics are used for the purpose of illustration only. Appearance of the computer may vary.
  1. Turn Off your computer and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Connect the DisplayPort or HDMI cable from your monitor to the computer.

NOTE: The default out of factory setting is HDMI 1.4.

NOTE: The default out of factory setting is DP 1.2. If the monitor fails to show any content after the DisplayPort cable is connected, follow the procedures below to change the settings to DP 1.1:
  1. Press the joystick to open the Menu Launcher.
  2. Toggle the joystick to select Input Source.
  3. Toggle the joystick to select DP.
  4. Press and hold the joystick for approximately 10 seconds, and the DisplayPort configuration message appears.
  5. Toggle the joystick to select Yes and then press the joystick to save the changes.

Repeat the above steps to change the DisplayPort format settings if necessary.

NOTE:
  • This monitor supports the DP MST feature. To use this feature, your PC Graphics Card must be certified to at least DP 1.2 with MST option.
  • Remove the rubber plug when using DP out connector.

NOTE: The following instructions are applicable only for attaching the stand that was shipped with your monitor. If you are attaching a stand that you purchased from any other source, follow the setup instructions that were included with the stand.

Tilt, Swivel

With the stand that is attached to the monitor, you can tilt and swivel the monitor for the most comfortable viewing angle.

  • The stand is not installed at the factory when shipped.

Vertical Extension

The stand extends vertically up to 150 mm. The figure below illustrates how to extend the stand vertically.

Rotating the Monitor

Before you rotate the monitor, your monitor should be fully vertically extended (Vertical Extension) and fully tilted up to avoid pressing on the bottom edge of the monitor.

NOTE:
  • To use the Display Rotation function (Landscape versus Portrait view) with your Dell computer, you require an updated graphics driver that is not included with this monitor. To download the graphics driver, go to www.dell.com/support and see the Download section for Video Drivers for latest driver updates.
  • When in the Portrait View Mode, you may experience performance degradation in graphic-intensive applications (3D Gaming and more).

To modify the OSD adjustments using the joystick control on the rear end of the monitor, do the following:

  1. Press the joystick button to launch the OSD Menu Launcher.
  2. Move the joystick up, down, left, or right to toggle between the OSD menu options.

Button Function Description
Button 1 Power On/Off button (with LED indicator on the front of the monitor). A solid white light indicates that the monitor is On and fully functional. Blinking white light indicates the power save mode.

  • Press the joystick to launch the Menu Launcher
  • Move the joystick up, down, left, or right to toggle between options.
  • Press the joystick again to confirm the selection.

Resetting a monitor to factory defaults can help resolve many video or display-related issues. To reset your Dell C2423H monitor to factory default settings:

  1. Press the joystick on the monitor to enter the On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu.
  2. Press up or down on the joystick to highlight the Others option in the menu and then press on the joystick to select.
  3. Press up or down to highlight the Factory Reset option in the menu and then press on the joystick to select.
  4. Press the joystick to confirm the reset action.

If the Dell monitor has a blank screen, blurry image, flickering, or other screen abnormalities, running a diagnostic test helps determine if the Dell monitor is functioning normally.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, verify that the monitor is working correctly by running a diagnostic test.

  • Your computer does not turn on or shows any sign of power.
  • Your computer does not show any indication of activity, the screen is blank and does not display the Dell logo during start-up.
  • Your computer is stuck at the Dell logo screen or does not respond to any keys during start-up.
  • You cannot see any display on the screen.
  • You can hear the Windows chime but no display is seen.

Self-Test Feature Check

Your Dell C2423H monitor provides a self-test feature check that allows you to check if the monitor is functioning properly. If the monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by following these steps:

  1. Turn off the computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper self-test operation, disconnect the video cable (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C cable) from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. A floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background), if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains white. Also, depending upon the selected input, the dialog box will continuously scroll through the screen.
NOTE: This box also appears during normal system operation, if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
  1. Turn off the monitor and reconnect the video cable.
  2. Turn on the computer and the monitor.

If the monitor screen remains blank after you use the above procedure, check your video card (GPU) and computer, because your monitor is functioning properly.

Built-In Self-Test or Built-In Diagnostics

Your Dell C2423H monitor has an integrated diagnostic tool. It helps to determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is a problem with the monitor or with the video card on your computer.

If you notice any screen abnormalities, it is a good practice to isolate the monitor by running the built-in diagnostics (BID).

  1. Press the joystick on the monitor to enter the On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu.
  2. Press up or down on the joystick to highlight the Others option in the menu and then press on the joystick to select.
  3. Press up or down to highlight the Self-Diagnostic option in the menu and then press on the joystick to select.
  4. Press the joystick to confirm the self-diagnostic action.

If you do not detect any screen abnormalities in the diagnostics test, the monitor is functioning properly. Check the video card (GPU) and the computer.

If you notice any abnormalities in the diagnostics test, contact Dell Technical Support for repair options.

During the LCD manufacturing process, it is not uncommon for one or more pixels to become fixed in an unchanging state. Such pixel issues are hard to see and do not affect the display quality or usability. Learn more about Dell LCD Monitor Pixel Guidelines.

  • Reconnect the upstream cable to your computer.
  • Reconnect the USB devices (downstream connector).
  • Reboot the computer.
Wireless USB devices stop working when a USB 3.2 device is plugged in. Wireless USB devices responding slowly or only working as the distance between itself and its receiver decreases.
  • Increase the distance between the USB 3.2 devices and the wireless USB receiver.
  • Position your wireless USB receiver as close as possible to the wireless USB devices.
  • Use a USB-extender cable to position the wireless USB receiver as far away as possible from the USB 3.2 port.

Using Windows Display Settings

In Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, and Windows 7:

  1. For Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 only, select the Desktop tile to switch to classic desktop view.
  2. Right-click the desktop and click Screen Resolution.
  3. Click the dropdown list of the Screen Resolution and select 1920 x 1080.
  4. Click OK.

Using NVIDIA Control Panel

To change the resolution using the NVIDIA Control Panel:

  1. Right-click the desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Click the + symbol next to Display on the left pane.
  3. Select Change Resolution under Display.
  4. In the dropdown menu on the right pane, select the resolution 1920 x 1080.
  5. Click Apply.

Using AMD Catalyst Control Center

To change the resolution using the AMD Catalyst Control Center:

  1. Right-click the desktop and click AMD Catalyst Control Center.
  2. Click the + symbol next to Display on the left pane.
  3. Select Change Resolution under Display.
  4. In the dropdown menu on the right pane, select the resolution 1920 x 1080.
  5. Click Apply.

The USB-C port on your Dell C2423H supports USB Power Delivery, Data, and DisplayPort video signal. The USB-C port can be used for video and data signals, and supply power (90 W) to a compatible laptop using a single USB-C cable that is provided with the monitor.

NOTE: Dell C2423H can supply power using the USB-C cable only to a compatible laptop that supports Power Delivery (PD) over USB-C. Not all laptops with USB-C support Power Delivery. For more information, see the user manual or contact the laptop manufacturer.
NOTE: USB-C power delivery-compliant port (PD version 2.0) delivers up to 90 W of power. If your laptop requires more than 90 W to operate and the battery is drained, it is recommended you use the standard AC adapter of the laptop to turn on and charge the laptop battery.
