Setting up your Wired Gaming Headset

 

Compatibility

System Requirements:

  • PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, or other mobile devices with 3.5 mm audio port
  • Windows 11 or Windows 10 (64-bit) computer device with USB Type-A port

Connecting the Wired Gaming Headset

The Alienware Wired Gaming Headset - AW520H uses either USB Type-A connector or an adapter (3.5 mm audio jack) to connect to the computer or audio device.

Connecting the Wired Gaming Headset using USB

USB Connection

Connect the USB Type-A connector from your headset cable to the Type-A port on your computer.

Connecting the Wired Gaming Headset using the 3.5 mm Audio Jack adapter

3.5 mm Connection

Connect the USB Type-A connector from your headset cable to the Type-A port on your adapter cable (3.5 mm audio jack).

Plug the 3.5 mm audio jack to the audio jack on the computer or audio device.

Note: The headset LED indicator does not work when you are using the 3.5 mm audio jack.

Troubleshooting

 

Problems Possible solutions
There is no sound from the Headset.
  • Ensure that the audio player is playing music, and that the computer volume and media player volume are not muted.
  • Check the playback device menu on the computer. Ensure that the default device is set to AW520H.
  • Test the headset on another computer or audio device.
The person I am talking to cannot hear me.
  • Ensure that the microphone is positioned approximately 20 mm from your mouth.
  • Ensure that the microphone is not muted.
  • Check the recording device menu on the computer, and ensure that the default device is set to AW520H.
  • Ensure that the 3.5 mm audio adapter is connected to the USB Type-A connector on your headset.
  • Ensure that the 3.5 mm adapter end is connected to the playback device.
An abnormal sound is coming out of the headset.
  • Check if something is obstructing the headset.
  • Adjust the volume level up and down, and check if the abnormal sound changes
  • Ensure that the USB plug is fully inserted into the USB port of the computer or other audio device (if connected through the USB cable).
  • Ensure that the 3.5 mm audio adapter plug is fully inserted into the audio port of the computer or other audio devices (if connected through the 3.5 mm audio adapter).
The headset LEDs do not light up
  • Ensure that the headset is connected to computer.
  • Open Alienware Command Center, and ensure that the LEDs are enabled.
  • The Alien head LED is disabled when the headset is connected to the device using the 3.5 mm audio adapter.
The microphone picks up too much background noise.
  • Ensure that the microphone is positioned approximately 20 mm from your mouth.
  • Eliminate any direct airflow in the microphone (such as fans or air conditioners).
The microphones mute does not work when the 3.5 mm audio adapter is connected.
  • Ensure that the audio plug end is well inserted into the port on your headset and computer respectively.
Alienware command center does not recognize the headset.
  • AWCC does not work when using the 3.5 mm audio adapter connection.
  • If it does not work with the USB cable connection, reinstall the AWCC application.
