Instructions

Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Education editions will end on October 14, 2025. End of support means that Microsoft will no longer provide software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Computers running Windows 10 will continue to function, but could become susceptible to malware attacks and may not work with newer technologies. See Microsoft's Windows 10 End of Support Announcement External Link for detailed information.

Note: Windows 10 Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) editions will continue to receive support through the end of their life cycles.

What can I do if I am still running Windows 10?

If your device is tested by Dell for Windows 11 and meets Microsoft's hardware requirements for Windows 11, Dell Technologies recommends that you upgrade your operating system to Windows 11 before the Windows 10 End of Support date. This may require enabling features like Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on your device if it is available. See the following articles for more information.

Download and run the PC Health Check App External Link from Microsoft to verify upgrade eligibility for Windows 11.

Do I need to back up my files before upgrading to Windows 11 or moving to a Windows 11 PC?

Dell Technologies recommends saving your essential files to OneDrive before upgrading to Windows 11 or moving to a new Windows 11 PC. Learn how to move files to a new PC using OneDrive External Link .

How do I upgrade to Windows 11?

If your device is eligible to receive the upgrade to Windows 11, follow these steps:

Select Start, then open Settings > Privacy and Security > Windows Update. If your PC meets the minimum system requirements and can upgrade, you should see an option in Windows Update to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

What if my device cannot upgrade to Windows 11?

If your device is not tested by Dell for Windows 11, and does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11, Dell Technologies recommends replacing that device with one that can run Windows 11.  See Dell's Windows 11 page for new Dell Copilot+ PCs that take full advantage of Windows 11's features.

What if I want to keep using a Windows 10 device after the End of Support date?

Dell Technologies recommends replacing your device with one capable of running Windows 11 before the End of Support date. If you need more time before moving to a Copilot+ PC or other new Windows 11 device, Microsoft will begin enrollment for their Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.

For consumer products, see the Microsoft Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates page for more information.

IT administrators can go to the Enable Extended Security Updates page to learn about enabling updates for PCs enrolled in the paid subscription service.
