Monitoring internal physical temperature of 10GBase-T optical ports

The Dell EMC Networking OS monitors the internal physical temperature for all 10GBase-T optical ports. If the temperature of the optical port reaches beyond the threshold, which is 104 degrees in Celsius, the optical port is reset automatically.

To monitor the internal temperature of the optical ports, execute the enable stack-unit unit-number port port-number phy temp polling command.

When the temperature reaches more than 104 degrees in Celsius, the corresponding optical port is reset automatically and the system generates the following syslog warning and major alarm.
IFAGT-5-PHY_TEMP_THOLD_REACH: 10GBaseT port 1/2 will get in to reset mode, transceiver internal phy current temperature is 117 C.

To view the programmed alarm, use the show alarms command.

DellEMC#show alarms

Minor Alarms
        No minor alarms

Major Alarms
Port 2 in unit 1 high internal temperature 1 min, 33 sec
NOTE This feature is not supported for stacking ports.

To change the optical port from reset to normal mode, you must execute the enable stack-unit unit-number port port-number transceiver command.

Example of the show command outputs

To view if this feature is enabled or disable, use the show interface interface-name transceiver command. The output also displays the internal temperature of the optical ports, when the physical temperature polling is enabled. If the temperature polling is disabled, the temperature in the output is displayed as 0.

Following is an example output, when the temperature polling is enabled.

DellEMC#show interfaces tengigabitethernet 1/5 transceiver
Interface Name : TenGigabitEthernet 1/5
SFP+ is present
SFP+ 5 Serial Base ID fields
SFP+ 5 Id = 0x03
SFP+ 5 Ext Id = 0x04
SFP+ 5 Connector = 0x22
<<output truncated>>
SFP+ 5 Extended Transceiver Code = 0x01

SFP+ 5 DOM is not supported
SFP+ 5 Temperature = 55
SFP+ 5 Phy Temperature Polling = Enabled

To view which optical port is reset, use the show inventory media command.
