Template – deploying with Compellent iSCSI

This template deploys a Compellent iSCSI storage volume for VMWare.
  • NOTE: Compellent iSCSI templates are deployed for Hyper V also with minor differences in the OS settings and in the Network Settings, we must not select the Do you want to partition check box.
  1. In the Templates page, click Create Templates . The Create Template tab is displayed.
  2. In the Template Name field, enter the name of the template, for example, Compellent iSCSI.
  3. Click Save.
  4. To add the VMWare template, click on Add Storage The Storage Component window is displayed.
  5. In the Storage Component box, select Compellent from the Component Name drop-down.
  6. Click Continue.. The Compellent Storage Settings area is displayed.
  7. Select a Compellent array from the Target Compellent drop-down.
  8. Select Create a New Volume from the Storage Volume Name drop-down.
  9. In the Port Type drop-down, select iSCSI.
    • NOTE: Make sure that you enter valid values for New Volume Name, Storage Size, and select the right operating system from the Operating System Name drop-down.
  10. Do not select the Configure SAN switch as there are no switches associated.
  11. Click Add to add the component. The component is successfully added under Storage.
  12. Click on the Storage icon that you have added and click on Duplicate to get another copy of the Storage.
  13. Click on the new Storage icon and then click Edit, to change the name of the New Volume Name to be different from the one you copied.
  14. Click Save to add the new Storage component.
  15. To add the Server Component, click on Add Server. The Server Component page is displayed.
  16. From the Select a Component drop-down, select the type as Server. The Associated Resources area is displayed with the two Compellent volumes that you have created.
  17. Select the check box for the two Compellent volumes that is displayed.
  18. Click Continue.
  19. In the Auto—generate host name under, OS Settings, select the appropriate esxi version.
  20. Type a valid password in the Administrator password field.
  21. Type the same password in the Confirm administrator password to ensure the password matches with the one you typed in the Administrator password field.
  22. In the NTP Server field, type the IP Address of your NTP server.
    • NOTE: For iSCSI Compellent, Install Equal Logic MEM should always be set to False as you will not be able to publish a template if you set this value to True.
  23. In the Network Settings area, for the two ports, you need to select two different iSCSI networks that you select on a different subnet that is created on the Networks page.
  24. Click Add to add the server component.
    • NOTE: iSCSI networks need to be selected on one partition on each of the port.
  25. To create a cluster, click on Add Cluster . The Cluster Component page is displayed.
  26. Select VMWare Cluster from the Component Name drop-down.
  27. Select the Server check box, to associate the server with the cluster you are creating.
  28. Click Continue. The Cluster Settings area is displayed.
  29. Select Create New Data Center from the Data Center Name drop-down.
  30. Type a valid name in the New Data center name field.
  31. Select Create New Data Cluster from the Data Cluster Name drop-down.
  32. Type a valid name in the New Data cluster name field.
  33. Click Add, to publish the Compellent iSCSI template.
