Thoughtfully engineered from the ground up, Dell OS6 modernizes campus networks. Incorporating enterprise-class features and resiliency, the new OS6 provides reliable, secure campus connectivity for media rich, bandwidth intensive applications with collaboration tools enabling enhanced workforce productivity.
Built for optimal usability, OS6 makes tasks easy with well-known commands and syntax for advanced configuration.
Additionally, the graphical user interface (GUI) offers maximum configuration and control with point-and-click ease. This GUI provides another option to simplify deployments.
These familiar and intuitive management tools help network administrators deploy, configure and manage networks with ease.
OS6 supports the latest open-standard protocols with PowerSwitch options ranging from robust Layer 2 switching features to advance Layer 3 routing functionality.
MLAG creates active/active loop-free redundancy without Spanning Tree Protocol and extends the LAG bandwidth advantage across peer switches that are connected to a LAG partner device.
All links in an MLAG configuration can carry data traffic across a physically diverse topology, which boosts bandwidth utilization and results in minimal disruption in case of a link or switch failure.
MLAG multipathing feature provides high availability and full bandwidth utilization.
Downstream switches view the single, logical switching entity and attach to the MLAG peer switches using standard LAG protocols.
Dell OS6 provides a seamless interface with RPVST+ enabling greater flexibility and interoperability with Cisco networks. Dell PowerSwitches support both Rapid Spanning Tree Per-VLAN (RSTP-PV) and Spanning Tree Per-VLAN (STP-PV) with a high degree of interoperability with other vendor implementations.
The Dell Networking RSTP Per-VLAN is the IEEE 802.1w (RSTP) standard implemented on individual VLANs allowing traffic load balancing on a pre-VLAN basis with the creation of separate spanning-tree instances.
PBR allows packets to be forwarded, based on assigned criteria, beyond the destination address. Network administrators often need to implement packet routing according to specific organizational policies.
PBR provides a flexible mechanism to implement solutions where organizational constraints dictate traffic routing through specific network paths.
To configure PBR, simply configure a route map with match and set commands and then apply the route map to the interface. PBR is applied to inbound traffic on IP routing interfaces, which enables the router to analyze packets using the route map.
OS6 provides MACsec support between Host-Switch and Switch-Switch traffic providing secure communication by establishing an encrypted link on the wired LAN.
MACsec is a 802.1AE protocol for authenticating and encrypting packets between two MACsec capable devices. This Layer 2 encryption technology can also encrypt control packets such as ARP, DHCP etc.
MACsec is currently supported only on Dell PowerSwitch N3248PXE-ON.
Latest OS6 release supports ‘Wake on LAN’ feature.
The WOL (Wake On LAN) feature allows the administrator to remotely power up all sleeping machines based on the principle that when a computer or an IP device shuts down, the NIC still receives power, and keeps listening on the network for the magic packet to arrive.
OS6.7 supports downloadable ACLs.
With downloadable ACL, user can download ACLs and redirect URLs from a RADIUS server to the switch during 802.1X authentication or MAC authentication bypass of the host.
OS6.7 supports ERSPAN which is an efficient traffic monitoring system across the L3 networks.
It duplicates network traffic to one or more monitoring interfaces which is used for troubleshooting connectivity issues and calculating network utilization, performance etc.
