Dell’s Dog Days of Summer

We have landed squarely in the dog days of summer (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least), when many families escape their daily work for a fun-filled vacation and plenty of kids spend their time outdoors and in summer camps instead of learning in a classroom. At Dell, we haven’t collectively headed off to the beach, but the team here has been having our own fun with a range of announcements and research to share. Read on to hear all that we’ve been up to in the middle of summer.

Dell and Microsoft Azure: A Winning Combination

At the beginning of the month we expanded our Microsoft hybrid cloud solutions with the availability of Azure Backup and Azure TestDev Labs from Dell. Acquiring and using these services from Dell streamlines and speeds IT operations into the cloud with rapid provisioning, multiple integrated adoption choices, and a single point of contact for administration, billing, and support. We were also a Titanium sponsor at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference that took place in Ontario, Canada in mid-July. We had several executives give presentations on the future ready workforce, hybrid cloud and big data and showed off the Microsoft Analytics Platform System (APS) by Dell and the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft. Dell Brazil also won the Software Asset Management (SAM) Award for Latin America and the Caribbean Region!

Dell PowerEdge FX2 Bolsters Customer Success

We announced updates to the systems management portfolio for the Dell PowerEdge FX2 modular infrastructure to help customers maximize IT productivity and business continuity. The new features enhance provisioning and infrastructure visibility, plus add support for Nagios users and open source applications. This includes OpenManage Power Center that was built to monitor both Dell and non-Dell servers and other devices in the datacenter and OpenManage Essentials 2.2 that enables fast provisioning of I/O aggregators with template-based processes that easily and uniformly replicate the assignment of vLANs during the blade port mapping process, which ensures simplicity and accuracy in network set-up. Our FX servers also received high praise from CRN on their top 10 coolest servers of 2016. Dell PowerEdge 13G with support for Intel’s latest Broadwell processor and Dell DSS 7000 object storage server were also on that list, meaning Dell Servers has three out of the 10 coolest servers on the block, now that’s pretty cool!

HPC Drives Innovation

Dell is doubling down on the HPC opportunity. We’re taking what we’ve learned from the most sophisticated research institutions and government agency supercomputers, and making it easier for a broader set of customers to benefit from HPC systems in this digital world. For example, our Dell HPC Systems for healthcare offer fully tested and validated building block systems, backed by a single point of hardware support and service options across the solution lifecycle, making it faster and cheaper to perform genome sequencing for early signs of a disease for specific treatments that will be more effective for patients. And, these systems are even easier to design, configure and ship through the Dell HPC System Builder, which enables us to configure Dell HPC Systems to fit specific customer wants, needs and environments. The HPC team has also been busy with announcements and recent customer successes leading up to and at the ISC High Performance 2016 conference.

IT Leaders and Business Decision Makers Agree

Dell commissioned a Dell State of IT Trends 2016 global study to understand how business and IT leaders’ perceptions of technology have evolved as new technologies and delivery methods have entered the market. We wanted to understand these leaders’ point-of-view on key IT trends including compute-centric, software-defined data center, openness, cloud, data center management and digital transformation. The results were astounding. We found that there is an increasingly common understanding between the two groups. The results indicate that IT and business leadership are better collaborating on the same page about the latest in IT and how it can propel businesses forward. While we may still be in the dog days of summer, Dell World (October 18-20 in Austin) will be here before you know it. Advance registration is open now through October 17. We hope you can make it!
