With just six months to go until the start of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, January was filled with a real sense of excitement at Dell.
Since we first announced we would be providing the IT hardware and datacentre solutions needed to power the competition, our teams have been working tirelessly to ensure that everything is in place to ensure that Glasgow 2014 is successful.
And we’re starting to gain real momentum! Over the next few months, we’ll be focused on setting up the Technology Operations Centre which will be responsible for the monitoring, operation and management of all the Glasgow 2014 technology and technology services. Our teams will also be ensuring that the athlete’s village, volunteer centre, press centre and facilities for the extended Glasgow 2014 family are all equipped with the best technology solutions to help them cope with the many demands placed on them during the 11 day event.
We’ll also be gearing up to welcome the Queen’s Baton back to the UK on the 20th May. Since its launch last year, the Baton has been working its way across the Commonwealth, and we’ve been inviting our global colleagues to enjoy their piece of the action and get behind Team Dell!
Outside of the technology implementation, our athlete ambassadors continue to rely on technology for their training and Glasgow 2014 preparation – whether that’s uploading their training schedules online or keeping in touch with their coaches remotely – it really is a vital component for helping them to achieve maximum performance. They’ll be using their Venue 11 Pro tablets to keep us updated on their training journeys, and also visiting local businesses and schools across the country to get pupils excited about sport in general and ensure Glasgow 2014 leaves a lasting legacy.
We’ll be showing our support for each of these athletes as they embark on a hectic schedule of training and competition in the qualifying rounds. We were delighted for Lynsey Sharp who was finally presented with her 2012 European Championships 800m gold medal this month, and Elinor Barker also kicked off the New Year in style with a victory at the women's scratch race in Manchester. Now we’re looking forward to seeing Sam and Ollie Hynd in action at the upcoming swimming qualifiers.
It’s going to be a busy few months but stay tuned and we’ll be sure to keep you updated with more news!
