PPDMA DM5510 CTL40 Multi-bit ECC error on <arg1>
Summary: A CTL40 Alert indicates a multi‑bit error during read/write. Multi‑bit errors usually mean data loss; if during write, loss is certain. Replace the Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) in the controller battery pack and restore data from backup. ...
Symptoms
Observed Alert.
CTL40Alert
Cause
Multi‑bit Error Encountered During I/O Operations.
An error involving multiple bits has been detected while performing a read or write operation. The error‑correction algorithm recalculates parity data for each operation.
- Multiple‑bit errors indicate that more than one data bit is corrupted.
- Single‑bit errors can often be corrected by the algorithm, preserving parity.
- Multi‑bit errors generally signify data loss.
- If the multi‑bit error occurs during a read, the underlying disk data may still be intact.
- If the multi‑bit error occurs during a write, the data being written is lost.
Resolution
Replace the Dual inline Memory Module (DIMM). The DIMM is a part of the controller battery pack. Refer to the storage hardware documentation for information about replacing the DIMM. You may have to restore data from backup.
