Current Alerts -------------- Id Post Time Severity Class Object Message -- ------------------------ -------- ------- ------ ---------------------------------------------------------- 30 Tue Nov 25 15:46:53 2014 CRITICAL Network EVT-NETM-00009: Unable to communicate with configured DNS. -- ------------------------ -------- ------- ------ ----------------------------------------------------------
Cause
In DDOS 5.5, a new feature was introduced to check on the functionality of the configured DNS. This feature attempts to resolve the domain "emc.com." If the name is not resolvable, the alert is posted.
Note: Starting with DDOS 7.10, the Data Domain looks for "dell.com" automatically.
Also note: The name the name is admin user configurable in DD OS 7.10+.
Also note: The name the name is admin user configurable in DD OS 7.10+.
Resolution
Ensure that the DNS configuration can resolve the domain emc.com.
- To test the resolution, from the Command-Line Interface (CLI) interface, run:
# net lookup emc.com
Note: Starting with DD OS 7.10, the Data Domain looks for "dell.com" automatically.
- To check for the configured DNS address on the CLI, run:
# net show dns
- To correct the DNS entry, run:
# net set dns Example: net set dns 10.10.10.10,10.10.10.11
- To check if the name is resolvable:
# net lookup <Name or IP that you are looking up>
- Starting in DD OS 7.10+: To change the name that the Data Domain looks for: (Ensure that this name is resolvable by your configured DNS server)
# reg set config.net.dns_domain_name=<Your resolvable name here> Example: reg set config.net.dns_domain_name = anycomp.com
- If you are on older code than DDOS 7.10, support can make the change for you.
- If you want DNS monitoring to be disabled outright, support can also set a registry key to disable it. This does require an FS restart with about 30mins of downtime.
