Symptoms

After re-docking a WD19DC dock to a Precision 7680, the system might recognize the external monitors connected to the docking station within the Ubuntu "Screen Display" menu, but not show any video.

This issue only happens when the two USB-C cables of the WD19DC get connected to the Precision 7680.

Note: This behavior should also not happen when single unit cable docking stations like the WD19, WD19S, WD19SC, or WD19TB are used.

Cause

Monitor link training can occur before the second USB-C cable connection is recognized by the system and therefore an essential signal will not be provided to the graphics card (GPU).

Resolution

Ubuntu Kernel 6.8.0

To resolve this behavior, update to Kernel 6.8.0.
