Cause
An internal drive firmware issue can cause an unexpected device reset. After the reset occurs, the drive formatting is damaged and the data is no longer available.
Resolution
Dell Technologies recommends installing this updated firmware on all Seagate Skybolt drives at the earliest available opportunity to prevent this condition.
Systems that do not have an active service contract can restore drive functionality by reformatting using operating system utilities like sg_format.
Note: Reformatting large-capacity drives may take a significant amount of time to complete.
