Symptoms
An Avamar backup fails to backup a file located inside a Windows Encrypting File System folder.
The following client log messages are generated.
2009-11-16 15:26:56 avtar Error <5737>: I/O error: Unable to open encrypted file "C:\HZD\directory\somefile.pdf" (code 5: Access is denied).
2009-11-16 15:26:56 avtar Error <5137>: Unable to open "C:\HZD\directory\somefile.pdf" (code 5: Access is denied).
Cause
The avagent is running as a "local system" process and does not have privileges to read the target file. This is true regardless of whether the file is encrypted or not.
Resolution
Provide the user which avagent is running as with the privileges necessary to read the target file.
