Service Principal

Follow the best practices for creating a Service Principle Name (SPN) in APEX Cloud Platform for Microsoft Azure.

APEX Cloud Platform for Microsoft Azure uses an Azure Application ID and Application Secret during deployment, Azure Arc integration, and upgrade activities.

For more information, see Service principle object.

To create an application ID and application secret, do the following:

  1. Register an application with Azure AD and create a service principal.
  2. Assign a role to the application.
  3. Sign in to the application.
  4. Create a new application secret.

Best practices

Use the following best practices when creating an SPN:
  • Create a dedicated SPN for each cluster instead of leveraging a single SPN to onboard multiple clusters.
  • Leverage short password validity times.
  • Rotate the SPN based on your company password policy.
