Removing the voltage regulator heat sink

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
    CAUTION: The heat sink may become hot during normal operation. Allow sufficient time for the heat sink to cool before you touch it.
    CAUTION: For maximum cooling of the processor, do not touch the heat transfer areas on the heat sink. The oils in your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal grease.
    NOTE: The voltage regulator heat sink is shipped as a separate unit and it does not ship along with the system board. Ensure to replace the voltage regulator heat sink from old system board to the new system board. Voltage regulator is required for computers that are shipped with the following processors:
    • 10th Generation Intel Core i5-10600K
    • 10th Generation Intel Core i5-10600KF
    • 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10700K
    • 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10700KF
    • 10th Generation Intel Core i9-10900K
    • 10th Generation Intel Core i9-10900KF
  2. Remove the left-side cover.

Steps

  1. Loosen the two captive screws that secure the voltage regulator heat sink to the system board.
  2. Lift the voltage regulator heat sink off the system board.
