Data protection management
Data Protection management ensures that data is protected and remains available.
Data Protection Management covers the following areas:
- Management of snapshot policies
- Management of MetroDR
- Management of SRDF groups - SRDF groups provide a collective data transfer path linking volumes of two separate storage systems. These communication and transfer paths are used to synchronize data between the R1 and R2 volume pairs that are associated with the SRDF group. At least one physical connection must exist between the two storage systems within the fabric topology. See Dell SRDF Introduction for an overview of SRDF.
- Migrations management - enables the migration of storage group (application) data from migration capable source arrays to migration capable target arrays.
- Management of Virtual Witness - The Witness feature supports a third party that the two storage systems consult when they lose connectivity with each other, that is, their SRDF links go out of service. When SRDF links go out of service, the Witness helps to determine, for each SRDF/Metro Session, which of the storage systems should remain active (volumes continue to be read and write to hosts) and which goes inactive (volumes not accessible).
- Management of Open Replicator - Open Replicator is a software application that is used to migrate data from third-party arrays to PowerMax arrays.
- Management of device groups - A device group is a user-defined group consisting of devices that belong to a locally attached array. Control operations can be performed on the group as a whole, or on the individual device pairs in the group. By default, a device can belong to more than one device group.
