Understanding SRDF groups

SRDF groups provide a collective data transfer path linking volumes of two separate storage systems. These communication and transfer paths are used to synchronize data between the R1 and R2 volume pairs that are associated with the SRDF group. At least one physical connection must exist between the two storage systems within the fabric topology.

See Dell SRDF Introduction for an overview of SRDF.

The maximum number of supported SRDF groups differs by version:

OS Maximum number of SRDF Groups supported Group numbers
per storage system per director per port
5977 or 5978 250 250 250 1–250
10 (6079) 2000 2000 2000 1-2048
  • NOTE: If both arrays are arrays running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079), up to 2000 SRDF groups can be defined across all the ports on a specific SRDF director or up to 2000 SRDF groups can be defined on one port on a specific SRDF director. A port on the array running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079) connected to an array running HYPERMAX OS 5977 or PowerMaxOS 5978 supports a maximum of 250 SRDF groups.
  • When specifying a local or remote director for a storage system, you can select one or more SRDF ports.
