Removing the secondary M.2 Solid-state drive

NOTE:For computers shipped with M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 SSD installed in slot 4.

NOTE: This slot supports only M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 Solid-state drive and does not support any Optane, or M.2 2230 Solid-state drive.

Follow the procedure in before working inside your computer.
Remove the SD card.
Remove the base cover.
NOTE:Follow this procedure only if the computer is shipped without SSD door configuration).

The figure indicates the location of the secondary M.2 SSD and provides a visual representation of the removal procedure.

For computers with SSD door configuration

For computers without SSD door configuration

Removing the secondary M.2 Solid-state drive for computers without SSD door configuration

For computers with SSD door configuration:
1. Use a plastic scribe to pry open the SSD door from its recess point.
  NOTE:The SDD door is attached to the base cover from one side and cannot be detached.
2. Follow the procedure from Step 3 to Step 8.
For computers without SSD door configuration:
1. Follow the procedure from Step 3 to Step 8.
Remove the (M2x3) screw that secures the SSD module into its slot on the computer.
Slide the SSD release latch to unlock the SSD module.
Remove the SSD module from the computer.
Remove the (M2x3) screw that secures the SSD thermal plate to the SSD carrier.
Carefully tilt at an angle and then slide to remove the SSD thermal plate from the SSD module.
Remove the M.2 2280 SSD from the SSD carrier.
