Installing a 2.5-inch cabled drive into the drive cage

Prerequisites

NOTE To identify the drive, see the label on the drive cable. For more information, see Drive Specifications in the PowerEdge C4140 Technical Specs at .www.dell.com/poweredgemanuals.
  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
  2. Keep the Phillips #2 screwdriver ready.
  3. Remove the 2.5-inch drive cage.
  4. Remove the 2.5-inch drive cage cover.

Steps

To install drive 0 and drive 1, perform the following steps:
  1. Slide drive 1 into the drive cage.
  2. Lower drive 0 into the drive cage.
  3. Secure the drives to the drive cage by using the screws.
  4. NOTE If the 2.5-inch drive has Torx screw, use Torx 6 screwdriver to secure the drives to the drive cage.Torx screw image
    Connect the power and signal cable to the drives.
NOTE Ensure that the connector labeled HDD0 is plugged into upper drive before reinstalling bay.

Next steps

  1. Install the 2.5-inch drive cage cover.
  2. Install the drive cage into the drive cage slot.
  3. Connect the power and signal cables to the system board.
  4. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
  5. Enter System Setup and ensure that the drive's controller is enabled.
  6. Exit the System Setup program and reboot the system.
  7. Install any software required for the drive operation as described in the documentation for the drive.
