EMC Symmetrix VMAX FAST VP for virtually provisioned environments automates the identification of thin device extents for the purposes of re-allocating application data across different performance tiers within a single array. This feature sheet describes FAST VP, a feature which provides automated tier management at the subLUN/volume level for Virtual Provisioning devices within a Symmetrix VMAX.

Federated Live Migration (FLM) allows a user to move data from older storage into a new Enginuity 5875 array without downtime to application hosts. Also, FLM helps eliminate the costly and time consuming remediation process that’s typically required prior to each migration by supporting pre-qualified software “stacks” consisting of Enginuity, host OS and multi-pathing versions. FLM manages both the array-based data migration process and the host/application redirection.
