During our San Francisco press event today, we launched our biggest portfolio of enterprise laptops in the company's history. I had time to speak with Mike Basore, Director of OptiPlex Marketing, to talk more about the new OptiPlex 990, 790 and 390 today. Here's a recap of our conversation:
Can you provide me of a quick overview of each of the new systems?
- The OptiPlex 990 is our most powerful and flexible commercial desktop, designed for our customers who require maximum productivity and collaboration from their workforce. Featuring up to Intel Core i7 vPro processors it delivers technology that helps simplify systems management and security as well as hybrid drive, solid state drives and 1GB AMD RADEON HD 6670 (the Mini-Tower only). The OptiPlex 990 is available in four different chassis sizes.
- The OptiPlex 790 helps IT programs save time and money, Intel Standard Manageability and Dell Data Protection solution are featured on OptiPlex 790 desktops. Also available in four different chassis sizes, that share OptiPlex 990 visual identity, the 790 form factors have a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled plastic enclosure and highly efficient power supply options to be environmentally responsible.
- The OptiPlex 390 is designed to offer essential productivity to organizations who need affordable in-band manageable desktops with OptiPlex life-cycle management and stability. This will be the best choice for our small business customers and those in emerging markets.
Did any environmental considerations go into the new design of these desktops?
Yes, there are BFR-PVC free configurations options (the small form factor in the US, UK and Japan) and we used 10% post-consumer recycled plastics and recyclable packaging for select chassis. We also offer highly efficient power supply options and designed for TCO3 and EPEAT. By using post-consumer recycled content in the chassis of more models, the new generation of OptiPlex is Dell's most environmentally responsible commercial desktop offering.
Tell me a little more about their new design?
In talking with our customers, we decided to pursue some design refinements to previous models, such as a smaller chassis given the trend in marketplace to go more compact, while the mini-tower form-factor features additional slots for expansion and upgradeability. The new accompanying all-in-one stand allows for easier cable routing, security and a sleek, clean design.
What services options are included?
The OptiPlex 990 integrates the latest Intel vPro remote management technology, along with the Dell Data Protection security capabilities such as one-touch preset compliance policy templates, flexible encryption and single solution for system disk as well as removable medias that work in your unique environment. On top of Dell Data Protection, the OptiPlex 790 comes with Intel Standard Manageability that delivers a robust and proven ground for remote system management. Also, Dell KACE system management appliances are fully-compatible with the OptiPlex desktops enabling easy deployment of remote manageability and maintenance simplification.
